What is a “captive” agent?

Captive agents are ones that can only work for one company (StateFarm, Farm Bureau, AllState, Nationwide, etc.). They can only offer you that one option. When they increase your rates, or when your requirements change, the agent is “captive” and cannot offer you any real options.

Frequently asked questions

Where did the name Melo come from?

Melo is the Greek pronunciation for the root word of “careth” – as in cast all your cares on Him because he “careth” for you.

What companies can you quote and write business for?

The options are limitless – and we are constantly seeking out new opportunities with companies that offer the best products. Currently we can write home/auto policies with Travelers, Hartford, Montgomery (a division of Liberty Mutual), Safeco, AIG, Hanover, and many others.

How can these companies be so much lower than what I am paying right now?

All are not lower. Some will be lower and our state-of-the-art software will allow us to match up your specific circumstance with the company that will provide you the best value.

How come I have never heard of some of these companies?

Captive agent companies spend millions of dollars on advertising. Most of our companies will spend a fraction of that on advertising. The question you should ask every time you see the Farmers Golf Open or the Allstate Sugar Bowl: Who’s paying for that? – you are!

I have never heard of some of your companies. Are they safe?

One company on our list that you have probably never heard of is Hanover. Established in the 1850’s, they boast one of the richest heritages of any insurance company. In 2009 they also boasted one of the strongest financial ratings in the insurance industry: AM Best (A), S&P (A-), Moody’s (AAA), Fitch (A-)

I just renewed my current insurance. Do I have to wait until next year?

No – you do not have to wait. You can start saving NOW, and we will help you get your refund from your existing insurance company.

Your quote is a lot lower than what I am paying now. What’s the catch?

There is no catch. Unlike captive agents, we have access to multiple companies. We can search out a solution that best meets your needs and then pass along savings directly to you.

I am already with one of the companies that you listed. Should I still call?

Yes – insurance companies will sometimes introduce new products. Unless your agent is proactively checking these for you (most are not!), you could still benefit by calling us.

I’m very busy. How long does it take to switch my insurance?

It should take less than 15 minutes of your time. A lot more time is involved on our side as we search out the best option. It is best to start ASAP – so call today!

My insurance is included with my house payment. Can you still help me?

Absolutely. This will not affect the quote. We will handle the paperwork to make sure your mortgage company is aware of the insurance change.
